Compilation of several pamphlets in the form of humorous letters from a fictional late 19th century raconteur named “Billy Baxter” of Pittsburg(h) PA to his friend and/or nephew Jim, detailing various drunken exploits. Written in 1899 for a certain target market to publicize Red Raven quinine tonic water. Red Raven was used as a liver tonic and morning-after remedy, and was produced by Duquesne Distributing Company in Harmarville, PA. The book quickly achieved national popularity for its broad humor and unique use of slang or vernacular.
