Panda Garra (Garra flavatra)

Panda Garra (Garra flavatra) is a captivating freshwater fish that can add charm to your aquarium.

1. Appearance:

   • Panda Garra stands out with its alternating dark and light brown to black vertical bars on the flanks.
   • It features red markings in its fins, creating a striking contrast.
   • The diamond -shaped scale patterns a hint of red coloration that make sit truly unique. 
     

2. Natural Habitat:

   • Native to the Rakhine mountain range in Western Myanmar, Panda Garra thrives in rivers and streams.
   • Thet prefer highly oxygenated fast flwo9ing waters but can adapt to slower moving environments with low oxygen levels. 
     

3. Size and Lifespan:

   • Typically, Panda Garra grows to 2.5 – 3 inches (6 – 7 cm), although some reports mention sizes up to 4 inches (10 cm).
   • With proper care they can live up to 6 years. 

4. Behavior and Diet:

   • These fish are playful, inquisitive, and peaceful.
   • Their modified adhesive lower lip allows them to cling to substrates while feeding on algae and biofilm.
     

5. Aquarium Requirements:

   • Tank size: Minimum 20 gallons (~80 liters).
   • Temperature: 21 – 25 °C (70 – 77 °F).
   • pH: 6.5 – 7.5.
   • Hardness (GH): 2 – 12.
     

6. Compatibility:

   • Panda Garra can be housed with various tank mates, especially nano and non-aggressive species.
