HomCo (Home Interiors & Gifts), was founded by Mary C. Crowley in Carrollton, Texas on December 5, 1957.  Mary structured the company much like Mary Kay Cosmetics, Avon and others who had mostly women selling door to door and at home parties.  They purchased items mostly from Asian manufacturers like China, Taiwan, and the Philippines and distributed them through their distribution network. The company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1983 and had grown sales to $400 million.  Sadly, Mary Crowley died of cancer in 1987, Don Carter, her second husband, became president and CEO and by the early 1990's the company had sales of over $850 million, with some 42,000 independent sales people.  In 1994 Don wanted to retire, the company was sold to the investment firm of Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst in a $1 billion leveraged buyout.  However, by April 29, 2008 they filed for bankruptcy.  After bankruptcy Home Interiors was bought by the owners and founders of Home & Garden Party.  In 2009 they merged the two companies renaming it Celebrating Home, and it continues to operate from Home and Garden Party's headquarters in Marshall, TX.
