A junior race binding designed to bring real race feel and reliable retention to young racers and developing intermediates. Lighter and lower-DIN than the adult Freeflex race line, it still uses HEAD's race architecture and delivers the kind of consistent release behavior you want for kids who are pushing it on course.

Why we like it:

GripWalk compatibility on a junior race binding is genuinely useful. It means the same boots can walk to the start gate and click in for training without needing two different setups. The full diagonal toe release is the other thing worth calling out; it adds a meaningful layer of safety for younger skiers whose technique can occasionally get away from them.

Who it's for:

Junior racers, U14 and U16 athletes, and aggressive intermediate kids who need a real race binding rather than a generic system binding.

Highlights:

HEAD spec'd this binding to share DNA with the adult Freeflex race line, then scaled it down for smaller, lighter skiers. The SX Lite Toe with the TRP System and full diagonal release give you proper race-style release behavior without needing adult-level forces to set it off. The AFS GW CA anti-friction slider handles GripWalk soles, which has become the standard for junior race boots, so this is forward-compatible with whatever the kid is going to step into next. The SX LITE heel keeps weight down to under 800 grams per binding, which matters a lot when you're talking about a 130 or 140 cm ski underneath a 60-pound kid. Stand height comes in at 21mm, a touch taller than the adult race plates; that extra height actually helps junior racers get the ski over on edge more easily.

Things to consider:

DIN range tops out at 9, so this is not a binding for heavier teens or strong U16 racers who consistently set above 8. Once a young athlete has outgrown the DIN range, it's time to look at the Freeflex 11 Race instead.

Fit & sizing considerations:

One brake width covers the junior race ski range. True to size for the intended platform.
